Projects

Beyond day to day guidance, we occasionally undertake larger editorial projects that explore a region or theme in greater depth.

Alongside our regular coverage, we periodically take on larger editorial projects that allow us to explore a region, route or theme in far more depth than a single guide would allow. These projects tend to take shape over months rather than weeks.

Why we undertake larger projects

Some subjects resist being covered well in a single article. A long distance route that crosses several countries, for instance, benefits from a structured, multi part treatment that lets each stage receive proper attention rather than being compressed into a brief summary.

How projects are chosen

We select projects based on genuine editorial interest and a sense that readers would benefit from deeper coverage. Popularity plays a role, but it is not the only factor, and we are equally willing to invest time in less obvious subjects that we believe deserve wider attention.

  • Multi part coverage of long distance routes and regions
  • Seasonal deep dives into how a destination changes across the year
  • Thematic features connecting several destinations around a shared idea
  • Extended research projects into less documented regions
  • Ongoing updates to major projects as circumstances evolve
Some places need more than one article to be understood properly.

What a project typically involves

A project usually combines several linked guides, supporting notes on logistics and season, and a broader introduction that ties the individual pieces together. The aim is to give a reader planning a substantial trip a coherent, well organised resource rather than a scattered set of articles.

We also use projects to test new formats and approaches that, if successful, can inform how we structure our regular guidance going forward.

Future projects

We expect to continue undertaking larger projects as our team and coverage grow, focusing where we can add the most value beyond what a single article could offer.
